Art Exhibit Opening

Sunday, February 22: Opening reception for the art exhibit, “John Gruen/Objects, Flowers: Silver Prints,” from 3 – 5 p.m. in the gallery. “Since the inception of my career the distinctive concern of my work has been to create images falling inside the tradition of the classic still life employing the medium of black-and-white film photography and darkroom printing. The quality of illumination forms the principal unifying element: all exposures are made within the confines of the studio, using studio strobes or daylight.” Gruen’s work has been described as “a perfect marriage of simplicity and attention to detail, of scale and subject, and best of all, a gift of poetry.” Everyone welcome.

Saturday, February 7: Book Voyagers Book Discussion Club for boys and girls in grades 5 to 7 in the Children’s Program Room from 1 to 2 p.m. Teacher Christopher Brown will lead a discussion of “The Giver” by Lois Lowry. Also on Saturday Tacky the Penguin will visit in the Curtis Gallery at 2:30 p.m. A special program for children ages 2 to 7 and their parents. Bring your camera for great photos!
